Praising your Child’s Effort Builds Responsibility: GTC Day21

On this twenty-first day of the Good Treatment Campaign, we celebrate something powerful yet often overlooked — the value of praising effort.

Children will not always succeed in doing things perfectly, but when adults take time to notice their attempts, encourage them, and give specific praise, children learn that their efforts matter. This simple act builds responsibility, strengthens confidence, and motivates them to keep trying.

Why Praise Effort Matters

Children thrive when they feel valued. Recognizing effort, not only results, teaches them that responsibility is about growth, not perfection. It tells them: “I see you. I thank you. Keep going.”

Instead of vague praise like “Good job,” be clear and specific:
“You did a great job putting your food neatly in the bowl!”

And show how their action helps others:

“Thank you for putting the spoons on the table; now we can all enjoy our tea.”

This helps children understand the bigger picture… that their responsibility contributes to the well-being of everyone around them.

Today’s Key Message

“Whenever your child makes an effort to act responsibly, even if they don’t succeed, give them praise and attention. Be specific and highlight how their efforts benefit everyone.”

The Benefits of Praising Effort

By practicing this simple but powerful habit, children:

  • Learn that effort is just as valuable as success
  • Build resilience and self-confidence
  • Recognize how responsibility benefits the whole family
  • Stay motivated to keep trying and improving

Call to Action

On Day 21, let us choose to celebrate effort, not only results. Every time we notice and affirm a child’s attempt to be responsible, we plant seeds of perseverance, cooperation, and maturity.

By praising effort, we shape children who are confident enough to try, responsible enough to care, and resilient enough to keep growing, children who will one day strengthen families, schools, churches, and communities.

Stay connected as the Good Treatment Campaign continues, bringing daily lessons that empower children and inspire us all to live out love, patience, and responsibility.
