Mentor Parents bring healing and support to families!
Every child deserves a home where they feel safe, seen, and supported, but for many children, home can also be a place where trauma hides, where pain is carried silently, and no one seems to notice.
That’s why we are training Mentor Parents; caring mothers and fathers from the community… who are stepping up to become protectors, listeners, and hope-givers for children and families in need.
Recently, we gathered 22 passionate Mentor Parents for a special training at our Viva offices in Cranborne. This wasn’t just another workshop, it was a heart-opening experience focused on Trauma-Informed Counselling and how to communicate with children in ways that bring healing.
These Mentor Parents are often the first people a child or family turns to when something goes wrong. They aren’t counsellors by profession, but they are the warm voices and open arms in the community who make a big difference through their presence and support.
“You don’t have to fix everything. Sometimes, just listening with love is the most powerful healing tool.”
The training introduced simple but powerful counselling approaches like Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Solution-Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT). These tools will help Mentor Parents support children and families facing hard times, offering a sense of stability, understanding, and care. We don’t just train Mentor Parents, we walk alongside them, because when caregivers are equipped, children thrive. When homes are filled with safety and empathy, communities grow stronger.
