Love is the Oil that Keeps Discipline Effective: GTC Day 3

Good Treatment Campaign – Day 3

Discipline is an important part of raising children, but it must always flow from a foundation of love. When a child’s “emotional tank” is filled with affection, encouragement, and affirmation, discipline becomes constructive rather than destructive.

The Good Treatment Campaign reminds us that disciplining without love is like trying to run a machine without oil. It may appear to work for a short time, but eventually the machine will break down. In the same way, harsh discipline without love damages trust, erodes emotional security, and strains the parent–child relationship.

True discipline is not about control or fear, it is about guidance, teaching, and preparing children to make wise decisions. Parents are called to lubricate their relationship with their children by continuously showing love, patience, and understanding. When children know they are loved, they are more receptive to correction, more open to communication, and more resilient in facing life’s challenges.

Let us commit, as families, churches, and communities, to keep children’s hearts filled with love. Discipline with love does not weaken authority, it strengthens it, because it builds respect, trust, and lasting bonds that prepare children for a healthy future.
