Hatcliffe Comes Alive to Celebrate and Protect the African Child

Joy, music, dancing, and powerful messages filled the air as Viva Network Zimbabwe (VNZ) joined hands with schools, churches, and the Hatcliffe community to celebrate the African child. It was more than just a fun day it was a strong, united call to protect children, speak up for their rights, and give them opportunities to shine.

The event brought together schoolchildren, community leaders, sports coaches, and government partners. From inspiring speeches and lively performances to colorful parades and exciting sports tournaments the day was full of purpose, hope, and unity. This was not just about entertainment. It was a reminder that every child deserves safety, love, and a future they can look forward to… no matter where they come from.

A Beautiful Start to a Powerful Day

The energy was high before the program even began. Coach Rashid Mafigo warmly registered all schools and guests, keeping everything organised. Mr. Charakupa officially opened the day with heartfelt remarks, followed by some energetic aerobics led by Coach Chizema, getting everyone moving and smiling.

The atmosphere shifted to joy and worship as Prince Robert Junior School’s Joyous Praise Choir sang “Extraordinary” by Mercy Chinwo a perfect way to set the tone for a meaningful day.

Voices That Spoke Boldly for Children

A series of passionate speakers took the stage, each one focused on the wellbeing of Zimbabwe’s children:

Ashley from the National AIDS Council spoke on children’s rights and the fight against abuse, promising to work closely with VNZ.
Tino from Smile Organization discussed sexual reproductive health and committed to promoting children’s rights through awareness and education.
Mrs. Chuchu from the City of Harare announced plans to equip vulnerable children with life skills like baking, sewing, and hairdressing in partnership with VNZ.
Coach Bomba from Hatcliffe Sports Academy encouraged children to dream big through sports, sharing how African athletes like Didier Drogba turned talent into global success.
Mrs. Guvamombe from Good Hope Junior School thanked VNZ for its support and invited the organization to continue partnering with Hatcliffe schools.

A Strong Message from the Guest of Honour

Mr Widdlack, Director of Viva Network Zimbabwe, received a warm welcome and a guard of honour before delivering a powerful speech. He reminded everyone that child protection is at the heart of VNZ’s work and called on schools, churches, government, and families to unite in making sure every child is safe, heard, and supported.

Parades, Performances & Powerful Messages

More than 13 schools participated in a vibrant uniform parade, with Auxillary Junior School taking first place. But the day wasn’t only about who won it was about the bold and beautiful messages children shared through their performances:

Traditional dances honouring Zimbabwean culture
Poetry and drama, including a powerful play titled #StopChildAbuse
Mass displays by Bright Kids showing young leaders in action

These creative acts weren’t just performances, they were statements. Each one was a cry for a safer, kinder world for children.

A Day That Sparked Something Bigger

This was more than just a celebration… it was a moment of awakening. The Day of the African Child in Hatcliffe showed what is possible when communities, schools, churches, and organisations come together for one cause: to protect and uplift children.

From colourful parades and joyful songs to honest conversations and serious commitments, the day reminded us all that every child matters and their future depends on the choices we make today.

Viva Network Zimbabwe remains committed to building a nation where every child is safe, seen, and supported. The journey continues, and with partners like these, hope is no longer just a word it’s in motion.
