Listening to your children builds their confidence: GTC Day24
There’s nothing more reassuring for a child than knowing their feelings and thoughts are truly heard. Today, we focus on the life-changing power of listening, not just to respond, but to understand.
Why Listening Matters
When we ask children about their day and genuinely listen, we create a safe space for them to share their joys, worries, and struggles. But the real challenge comes when they bring up fears or negative emotions.
Our natural instinct as adults is to immediately “fix” the problem. Yet, rushing in can sometimes make children feel unheard. Instead, guiding them gently, helping them think through solutions and make their own decisions, strengthens their confidence and resilience.
Today’s Key Message
“There’s nothing more reassuring than having your views and feelings heard. Ask your child about their day and truly listen. If they share worries or negative emotions, resist the urge to immediately fix the problems. Instead, guide them in making good choices and decisions. They will feel supported, and their confidence will grow.”
The Benefits of Active Listening
By practicing patient listening, children:
- Feel valued and respected
- Learn to process emotions in healthy ways
- Gain confidence in solving problems
- Grow stronger in making wise choices
Call to Action
On this twenty-fourth day, let us give children the gift of our full attention. Listening is not about providing all the answers, it’s about walking alongside them, showing empathy, and guiding them toward thoughtful choices.
When children feel heard, they grow stronger, more confident, and more prepared to face life’s challenges.
