Show mercy, it helps you and others heal and stand again

When people make mistakes, they often carry more than regret they carry shame. Shame tells them they are not good enough, that they do not belong, and that the world would be better without them. Over time, this feeling can isolate people and quietly destroy hope.

Today’s message reminds us that shame pushes people down, but mercy lifts them up.

When people are shamed, ignored, or pushed away, they may begin to withdraw from relationships, communities, and even life itself. Children and young people are especially vulnerable rejection can shape how they see themselves for years to come.

Mercy does not mean excusing harmful behavior. It means choosing compassion over condemnation. It means correcting without humiliating, guiding without rejecting, and helping someone believe that failure is not the end of their story.

Showing mercy:

  • Restores dignity and self-worth
  • Reduces isolation and hopelessness
  • Encourages accountability without fear
  • Helps people find strength to try again

When someone is struggling, your kindness can be the reason they stand again. A listening ear, a gentle word, or a second chance can save a life.

This Mental Health Month, let us be people who fight shame and choose mercy. Healing begins when someone realises they are still valued, still needed, and still loved.
