Teaching Responsibility by Setting an Example: GTC Day 18

On Day 18 of the Good Treatment Campaign, we are reminded that one of the most effective ways to teach responsibility is through leading by example. Children learn more from what we do than from what we say, which is why modeling responsibility in daily life is so powerful.

Why Example Matters

Children observe everything. From how we care for our homes to how we handle our commitments, they are constantly learning what responsibility looks like. If adults live carelessly, children are likely to copy that behavior. But when adults consistently demonstrate responsibility, children naturally absorb those habits.

Today’s Key Message

“Show your child what responsibility means by taking good care of your own life, belongings, and space. Put your plates where they belong instead of leaving them where you ate and pick up clothes from the floor. Explain why you’re doing these things, so your child understands the importance of responsibility. Let us set a positive example for our children.”

How to Model Responsibility

  • Take care of your belongings — return things where they belong
  • Keep shared spaces clean and organized
  • Meet commitments on time and follow through on promises
  • Explain your actions so children understand the why behind them

Call to Action

On this eighteenth day, let us commit to being the role models our children need. By showing responsibility in the little things, we set the foundation for children to develop responsibility in greater things.

Follow the Good Treatment Campaign daily this September as we continue equipping families, schools, churches, and communities with practical ways to nurture children.
